Saturday, 24 April 2021 - 17:04 The Central Bank announced that a new account called the Foreign Commercial Borrowing Account has been activated to facilitate foreign exchange borrowing from abroad by the residents of Sri Lanka. This is in accordance with the amendments made to the regulations issued under the Foreign Exchange Act No. 12 of 2017. The revised Foreign Exchange Policy Framework will come into effect from March 22 this year. It has also removed the mandatory requirement for lenders to open investment accounts when granting loans to Sri Lankan residents, including the Government of Sri Lanka and government-owned enterprises. The Central Bank also announced a number of new incentives for non-resident investors to be active in the stock market or in debt securities investments.
