BRATTLEBORO â After a two-year absence, thereâs a familiar face in One Stop Country Pet Supply on Putney Road. âOver the years, Saskia [Whallon] and I have had discussions,â said Dan Blake, who earlier this month finalized his purchase of the stores in Brattleboro, Keene, N.H., and Barre. âI told her if she ever thought of retirement, she should call me, and she did.â Whallon, who purchased the pet store two decades ago, first hired Blake more than 10 years ago, when he was only two years out of high school.

Spring Work Bee scheduled for this Saturday at Ski Hill

BRATTLEBORO â The Brattleboro Ski Hill at Living Memorial Park will have its Spring Work Bee this Saturday, April 17 starting at 9 a.m. and going until all the spring cleanup is done. Come on down and help the ski hill get ready for next year by cleaning up from this one. This is a great way to get Brattleboro Union High School community service hours. IMPORTANT: Park at the Withington Ice Rink, as the town has an event scheduled in the lower parking lot. The Brattleboro Ski Hill Board would like to send out huge appreciations to all and everyone who has worked and played to make skiing and riding happen this past winter.

BRATTLEBORO Town Manager Peter Elwell announced he will be retiring at the end of the year, calling his work here the most satisfying of time his career. After growing up here in Brattleboro and then living away for almost 35 years, coming home has definitely been part of what has made these past six-plus years special, he said the Select Board meeting held remotely Tuesday. But, far beyond the personal pleasure of living again in this community and region, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with so many dedicated and talented people both inside town government and in the community we serve.
