Breaking with President Trump’s drive to overturn his election loss, Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky on Tuesday congratulated President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. on his victory and began a campaign to keep fellow Republicans from joining a doomed last-ditch effort to reverse the outcome in Congress.

All 538 electors voted Monday in the Electoral College, formalizing President-elect Joe Biden s victory in the 2020 presidential election. Their votes will next be sent to Washington to be counted by Congress on January 6.
Hawaii s four electors voted shortly after 7 p.m. to make the final tally 306 Electoral College votes for Mr. Biden to 232 for President Trump. At 5:30 p.m. ET, California s electors cast their state s 55 Electoral College votes for Mr. Biden, putting him over the 270 needed to win.
“The Electoral College has voted. The longer we drag this out, the more we damage the fabric of our democracy,” Mr. Rivera, 77, said on the Fox News program “The Story with Martha MacCallum.”
“It also damages the legacy of President Trump,” Mr. Rivera said, suggesting instead the president take a “victory lap” to celebrate the U.S. starting to vaccinate people against the novel coronavirus.
Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist who appeared on the program alongside the former “Geraldo” host, countered that he has the “exact opposite viewpoint” and argued the race is not over.
“There are still plenty of pending legal challenges,” argued Mr. Kirk, a co-founder of the Turning Point USA group.

During the House impeachment hearings of President Trump, Republican members said, âLet the voters decide.â During the trial by the Senate that followed, Republicans said, âLet the voters decide.â
During the final year of President Obamaâs administration the exceptionally qualified Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland was never allowed consideration in the Senate because, as Mitch McConnell said, âLet the voters decide.â
The voters werenât allowed that decision a few weeks before the 2020 election when Republicans rushed Amy Coney Barrett through.
Finally, last month, the voters were given the opportunity to decide, and decided decisively. When will all the Republicans accept that fact?
