Pat Ryan s got his own Green New Deal | City & State NY

SHARE: New York politics have featured Green New Deals for more than a decade. Howie Hawkins, the 2018 Green Party gubernatorial nominee, ran under the banner of confronting climate change and the damage done to disadvantaged communities by fossil fuels in one legislative go. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Gov. Andrew Cuomo have their own respective plans. Add Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan to the list. The upstate Democrat recently unveiled his own 21st Century homage to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt s signature initiatives against the Great Depression. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing energy efficiency in buildings and spurring economic activity based in the transition to renewable energy all have a place in the plans that Ryan unveiled earlier this month. What makes his plan unique is how it might show how county governments might tackle climate change.

In some cases, there’s a particular rock formation, striking waterfall, or rare landscape found within the park that draws tourists from around the world. For other parks, the appeal is simply the chance to be surrounded by nature and reap its benefits while strolling on well-maintained trails.

Biden and Democrats Supreme Court packing an undemocratic power grab

ANALYSIS/OPINION: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg wisely said when asked about the size of the high court, “Nine seems to be a good number. It’s been that way for a long time.” “I think it was a bad idea when President Franklin Delano Roosevelt tried to pack the court,” she added. On this issue, she was absolutely right.  The latest efforts to expand the size of the Supreme Court of the United States should be viewed through political lenses. Last week, one of the major proponents of the new legislation Sen. Ed Markey stood outside the Supreme Court at a podium with a sign that read, “Expand the Court.”

GOP senators say Dems trying to rig SCOTUS through court-packing, ask Biden to rein in party s crazies

The senators expressed opposition to expanding the Supreme Court amid a push from Democrats to do just that. A group of Republican senators on Thursday spoke in front of the Supreme Court in opposition to court-packing, a response to legislation Democrats introduced at a press conference last week to do just that.  Sens. Ted Cruz., R-Texas, Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., railed against court-packing as an effort to rig the Supreme Court and pleaded with President Biden to buck crazies in his party who support the idea.  Packing the court and tearing down the institutions that protect our rights is fundamentally wrong, Cruz said. He said the court-packing plan would destroy judicial independence.
