August 3, 2021 More than 6,000 Filipino tourists are now stranded in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to the Inter-Agency Task Force or IATF’s extended travel ban until August 15 for travelers from the UAE and Oman back to the Philippines. According to the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, the number of stranded people may increase due to the new extension of the travel ban. In addition, the passenger’s health has been affected as the flight home to the Philippines has been canceled several times. One of them is Joel Arcala and his wife, who have been stranded for four months.

3 close contacts of OFW infected with India variant test positive for COVID-19

DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire (PCOO Screengrab) CALOOCAN CITY, May 16 (PIA)  Three close contacts of the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) infected with the SARS-CoV-2 variant first detected in India also tested positive for the coronavirus, the Department of Health (DOH) said Saturday.  The DOH previously reported that two male OFWs from Oman and the UAE caught the B.1.617 variant.  “As for case number 2, which is the 58-year-old male from UAE, we have 32 verified close contacts in the airplane and three of them are positive for COVID-19,” DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in the Laging Handa public briefing hosted by the Presidential Communications Operations Office.
