ABU DHABI, 12th February, 2021 (WAM) The Higher Committee Overseeing the National Strategy on Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism, has convened its first meeting in 2021 via video conference.
The committee members were briefed on the latest developments of the action plan for anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist finance in addition to the future plans developed to achieve the set objectives in the best possible manners.
During the meeting Sultan bin Saeed Al Badi Al Dhaheri, Minister of Justice, and Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Cabinet Member and Minister of Economy, reviewed the progress made by their ministries to counter money laundering and financing terrorism.
ADFD awards Dhs53m in financing to Bloom for knowledge economy
11 Feb 2021 Picture used for illustrative purpose. The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has extended Dhs53 million in financing on preferential terms to Bloom Education, making the company one of the first beneficiaries of the Fund’s Dhs1 billion initiative launched last year.
The drive was aimed at helping national companies operating in vital economic sectors.
The agreement was signed by Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of ADFD; and Dr Rashid Khalfan Bin Amer Althakhri, member of the Board of Governors of Brighton College in the UAE, which are operated by Bloom Education, in the presence of Khalifa Al Qubaisi, Deputy Director General of ADFD, as well as other officials representing both sides.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), is expected to conduct a two-day stakeholders’ Workshop on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in Monrovia from February 9-10, 2021.
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) was established in January 2012, in Addis Abba, Ethiopia, and entered into force on January 1, 2021, with a focus on creating a single African market for goods and services.
The idea is also aimed at facilitating the free movement of persons and capital to deepen economic integration and accelerate the establishment of a single continental customs union.
State parties to the AfCFTA, agreed to a 90% elimination of tariffs on goods and that the remaining 10%, 7% may be designated as sensitive, while 3% of the tariff lines can be excluded from liberalization.
