The BAE Systems shipyard in Barrow A TRIAL date has been set for a man accused of causing a bomb scare at the shipyard. Michael Turnbull is alleged to have told a member of staff at the BAE site that there was a bomb onboard a submarine, knowing this was false. The charge relates to an incident in April 2019, when 2,000 workers had to be evacuated from the site. The 32-year-old, of no fixed abode, is due to stand trial at Preston Crown Court on July 27. At a previous hearing at South Cumbria Magistrates Court in Barrow, Mr Turnbull’s solicitor argued to the court that the defendant’s identity should be withheld until the trial in interests of the administration of justice and national security.
