Doha: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has reminded the public that this year is more important than ever to get the flu vaccination, especially for children.
“Children are more susceptible to flu. Protect your children from getting the virus, and spreading it. Get them vaccinated,” said National head for Children and Adolescent Health Strategy, Dr. Sadriya Alkohji.
“This year is more important than ever to get flu vaccination due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Changing seasons and kids interacting with each other in school may lead to spread of seasonal flu during the coming months,” she said in a video message posted by the Ministry on its social media accounts.
Several senior health officials in Qatar took the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine yesterday.
The health officials stressed the importance of taking the second shot of the Pzifer-BioNtech vaccine, which is administered 21 days after the first one.
Among the health officials who got their second dose of the vaccine were: Dr Abdullatif Al Khal, chair of the National Health Strategic Group on COVID-19 and Head of Infectious Diseases at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC); Sheikh Dr Mohamed Al Thani, director of Public Health at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH); Dr Hamad Eid Al Romaihi, co-chair of the National Pandemic Preparedness Committee and director of Health Protection and Communicable Diseases at the MoPH; Dr Muna Al Maslamani, Medical Director of the Communicable Disease Center, HMC; and Dr. Soha Al Bayat, Head of Vaccination, MoPH.
In a video, shared by MoPH on its official Twitter page, Dr. Sadriya Alkohji, National Lead for Healthy Children and Adolescents Strategy at PHCC has reminded parents of the importance of getting children vaccinated against the flu.
“Changing seasons as well as children interacting with each other at school, in particular during the COVID-19 pandemic, may lead to the spread of seasonal flu during the upcoming months,” the official said.
She encouraged parents to set an appointment for their children at any of the PHCC health centers to take the free flu shot.
