Community pharmacies join COVID-19 vaccination roll-out Life-saving coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccinations will begin to be delivered from a city centre pharmacy, and a former church in the Clay Country from today(Thursday 28 January). Reeds Pharmacy in Truro, and Roche Pharmacy in Roche are among hundreds of community pharmacies to offer vaccinations to protect against the deadly virus. The two community pharmacies join the expanding roll-out of the programme – the biggest vaccination programme in NHS history. They join the large scale vaccination centre at Stithians Showground, near Truro, and the 13 GP-led primary care network sites across Cornwall already delivering the vaccine. Two hundred pharmacies across the country are expected to offer the vaccine by the end of the month.
“There is a PCN in this district which is offering for people to go to Danbury to receive the vaccination.
“I thought there was a national guarantee that no member of the public would have to travel more than 10 miles.
“Danbury is much more than 10 miles – it is closer to 16 miles for people in Great Notley to go there.
Mr Butland continued: “I had a lady of 90 contact me who lives in Great Notley and was offered following a phone call to 119 – where she was asked to press option 3 – which is very good if you live in Wales , but 119 option one is what was needed for England – and she was offered a vaccination in Runwell.

Hospital and clinical pharmacists in primary care have worked together to ensure the safe and speedy acceleration biggest vaccination programme in NHS history.
Pharmacists have been overseeing the safe handling of the COVID-19 Pfizer and Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccines to ensure their integrity.
This includes working with local leads on clinical advice and training, also ensuring the vaccine is stored, prepared and administered safely.
Paul Fieldhouse is clinical director of pharmacy services for North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.
He said: âThe vaccine requires special storage, particular careful handling in preparation for each dose and robust governance systems to be in place. It has been really good that we have all been able to share our experience and learning to support the roll-out in general practice.â
