Law association hits back at Trinidad PM

Law association hits back at Trinidad PM Keith Rowley December 29, 2020 (Trinidad Guardian) National Security Minister Stuart Young and the Law Association of T&T (LATT) seem to be engaged in a war of words over statements Young and the prime minister have made about attorneys over the past several days.   In a release yesterday, LATT hit back at Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and Young over what they deemed to be derogatory remarks made about attorneys representing Venezuelan migrants.     The association says it also takes offense to Young’s allegations that a statement made in a court hearing by an attorney representing Venezuelan migrants could be linked to aiding and abetting illegal migrants.

Young tells Law Association: Lawyers not above the law

In response, Young stated lawyers are not above question or the law. He asked: It is legitimate for anyone to ask how certain lawyers seem to have access to illegal immigrants without physically meeting with them to get instructions. The question arises: how are they getting instructions, and from whom? The National Security Minister added the illegal migrants to whom the Law Association refers would have broken laws in both Venezuela and in Trinidad and Tobago when entering our country, as both borders are closed and they have not been granted permission to enter Trinidad and Tobago. He stated it is a criminal offence to enter T&T s borders without the requisite authorisation.
