Sir Hilary: UWI ranked in top 2 5 per cent of universities

Article by Social Share The University of the West Indies (UWI) is now ranked in the top 2.5 per cent of the best universities of the world in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021 released last week. Making the disclosure today, vice chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles described it as “magnificent news”. He suggested it would be a significant boost in the University’s quest to commercialise the brand and to secure donor funding internationally. “We chose to participate in this ranking because universities were being ranked within the context of the UN’s sustainable development goals and how are universities delivering on the UN mandate.

Powell who died on April 25, 2021.    Dr Powell led The UWI Press for the past four and a half years, having joined The UWI in September 2016. He brought more than two decades of experience in scholarly publishing to the role. In an outpouring of tributes from his UWI Press team, he is remembered by colleagues for his professionalism, kindness and genuine concern for members of staff and their families.
