Tim Corkill, marketing manager for FirstFruits Marketing and longtime produce industry member, died Jan. 9. He previously worked with the Pear Bureau Northwest as western regional marketing manager, California Grape Commission as western manager and with Fresh Western, River Ranch Inc. as director of marketing services.
“Tim Corkill had such a killer work ethic and a mind for the details, those qualities coupled with his enthusiasm for our business made him someone we could always trust,” said Chuck Zeutenhorst, president at FirstFruits Marketing. Mr. Corkill was a trailblazer on the FirstFruits marketing team serving as western regional marketing manager and as a driving force behind the FirstFruits Opal apple national program.

BrightFarms, a leading supplier of locally grown packaged salads, recently announced that Jackie Hawkins has been promoted to director of food safety & quality. She will report directly to Josh Norbury, BrightFarms’ senior vice president of operations.

With the start of a new year come resolutions to eat healthier, which helps R.A.M. Produce Distributors LLC get off to a strong start in 2021.
“At this time of year, everything is moving well,” said Jim Bommarito of the Detroit-based company. “Everybody is starting their diets right now, and all the vegetables are moving lettuces, celery and all vegetables move well at this time of year.”
As a longtime force on the Detroit Terminal Market, R.A.M. Produce Distributors LLC specializes in greenhouse-grown vegetables. Bommarito noted that 95 percent of the company’s business is vegetables, adding that it also has seen success with some fruits, including strawberries and clementines.
