The Montana Office of Public Instruction (OPI) strongly recommends school districts across the Treasure State rescind any existing mask mandates for the upcoming school year. That s according to State Superintendent Elsie Arntzen, who read part of a letter being sent to other superintendents, on Wake Up Montana Wednesday morning. In light of the changes occurring across the state, as we move into the 2021-2022 school year, the OPI strongly recommends that school districts across Montana rescind, or allow to expire, any existing face covering mandates, and develop policies that make the wearing of face masks and other coverings optional, voluntary, and a matter of family choice, - Montana OPI Superintendent Elsie Arntzen wrote.Â

HELENA, Mont. (AP) Montana’s head of public instruction wrote a letter to school superintendents on Wednesday strongly recommending that districts end their mask mandates and make the wearing of face coverings a personal choice starting in the fall.
State Superintendent Elsie Arntzen’s letter also offers support to schools that decide to lift mask mandates for the remainder of the school year and for summer programs, KULR-TV reported.
“We cannot enter another school year subjecting our students to any additional loss of instruction time, Arntzen wrote. “We also cannot perpetuate the notion that masks will be a permanent feature in or state s classrooms.
