Arntzen Celebrates Role of Revised State Content Standards in Promoting Robust Civics Education for Montana Students Office of Public Instruction

HELENA – As part of her commitment to ensuring Montana’s students become active participants in civil society, Montana Office of Public Instruction (OPI) State Superintendent Elsie Arntzen released an opinion post on Medium describing how recently updated state Social Studies standards will help bring attention to increased opportunities for civics education in grades K-12. The newly revised standards, which took effect on July 1st, detail the knowledge base that students should progressively obtain in each year of schooling. The civics and government portions emphasize the use of primary documents to allow for greater critical thinking skills.
