A mock-up of what the train tracks at the ExxonMobil refinery in Billings could look like, included in the Montana Department of Environmental Quality s environmental assessment
The Montana Department of Environmental Quality is seeking public comment on an environmental impacts assessment of a Billings refinery’s proposed train yard.
ExxonMobil wants to construct a new set of tracks across 35 acres of its oil refinery to store rail cars. The company owns the refinery and 720 acres of property along Yellowstone River.
The construction would require modification of the company’s hazardous waste permit so that ExxonMobil can move treated soil from one of the facility’s old treatment areas to another. The company may also relocate groundwater wells.
