Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Thursday demanded that the Union government float a single global tender of coronavirus vaccines on behalf of all the states to avoid unhealthy competition .
He made the suggestion during a video conference between Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and his counterparts from six states which have been severely affected by the pandemic, Mr Tope told reporters. If every state starts floating global tender, vaccine manufacturers will benefit. The Union government should review the total vaccine requirement in the country and float a common tender, he said. There should not be any unhealthy competition between states.It would not look good, Mr Tope added.

Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla has promised Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to deliver 1.5 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine Covishield to Maharashtra after May 20, said health minister Rajesh Tope on Wednesday.
The Maharashtra state cabinet held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the Covid management.
Interacting with reporters, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said, Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla has promised the Chief Minister to deliver 1.5 crore doses of Covishield to Maharashtra after May 20. We will start the vaccination for the 18-44 years age group after we receive the vaccine.

New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The single-day rise in new coronavirus infections in India fell to 3.29 lakh after 14 days taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 2,29,92,517. A total of 3,29,942 infections were reported in a span of 24 hours, while the death toll climbed to 2,49,992 with 3,876 fresh fatalities. After registering a steady rise for two months, the active cases have reduced to 37,15,221 comprising 16.16 per cent of the total infections.

Maharashtra: 2 die of mucormycosis in Thane, 6 hospitalised
Two COVID-19 patients have died due to mucormycosis, a serious but rare fungal infection, in Maharashtra s Thane district, a health official said on
Wednesday. Besides, six other patients are currently undergoing treatment for the disease, also known as black fungus, the official said. A 38-year-old patient from Maharal in Thane rural and another one from Dombivli town died of the fungal infection while undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 care centres in Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) limits, the civic body s health officer Dr. Ashwini Patil said.
Six other patients were undergoing treatment for mucormycosis and two of them were admitted to the ICUs, she said.
