Rice County Health Survey Mailed to 1,000 Households

The 2021 Rice County Community Health Survey is a joint effort between Rice County Public Health, Allina Health District One Hospital, HealthFinders Collaborative, Mayo Clinic Health System and Northfield Hospital & Clinics.
Over 1,000 randomly selected households in Rice County will receive the mailed survey in late January or early February. Rice County Public Health and partners use the information from the survey to better understand the barriers and bridges to health that residents experience. Partners then work together on community health initiatives and programs aimed to protect, promote and improve the health of all Rice County residents.

FAIRMONT February is American Heart Month and with that in mind, Mayo Clinic Health System (MCHS) in Fairmont is doing a month-long Know Your Numbers virtual challenge open to anyone in the community. Those who take part in the challenge will receive weekly emails with heart-health information, trackers and challenges to guide them toward heart healthy habits. The challenge begins on Feb. 1, and those still interested are invited to register online as late as Feb. 8.
Donna McMurtry, a Cardiac Rehabilitation R.N. from the Fairmont Cardiac Rehab center explains the general importance of a healthy heart and habits, as well as the challenge itself.

UDOLPHO TOWNSHIP, Minn. – One person is hurt after a two-vehicle collision in Mower County.
It happened around 11:46 am Friday at the intersection of Highway 218 and County Road 1. The Minnesota State Patrol says Diane Kay Boullion, 71 of Blooming Prairie, was driving north and Chasten James Wilkie, 18 of Waltham, was driving east when they crashed into each other.
Boullion suffered a non-life threatening injury and was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin for treatment. Wilkie was not hurt. The State Patrol says both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
Mayo Clinic asking people to take Know Your Numbers Heart Health Challenge

“Knowing and understanding key heart numbers blood pressure, cholesterol and heart rate, along with your family history allow you and your health care team to determine your risk for developing heart and cardiovascular diseases,” says Jose Exaire, M.D., a cardiologist for Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. “Knowing your risk is critical to preventing heart diseases and for taking steps to improve your overall heart health.”
