January 14: Weekly Driftless Region COVID-19 update
DRIFTLESS - Over the past week COVID-19, diagnoses statewide increased from 487,938 on Monday, Jan. 4 to 508,346 on Monday, Jan. 11. That is a statewide increase of 20,408 cases. The number of deaths increased from 4,884 to 5,162, an additional 278 deaths, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) announced today that Police and Fire personnel will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine beginning January 18, 2021 which begins the first step into phase 1B for Wisconsin. Wisconsin has been vaccinating the 1A population since December 14, 2020 which includes frontline health care workers and residents of long term care facilities including nursing homes and assisted living facilities. There are 1098 entities fully registered and ready to provide COVID-19 vaccines in Wisconsin. Local Health Departments (LHD) will be leading the coordination for the vaccina

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Pharmacists play an important role in distributing the COVID-19 vaccine.
January 12th is ‘Pharmacist Day,’ and this year it’s recognizing pharmacists’ and technicians’ efforts throughout the pandemic.
Wisconsin is moving into its next phase of vaccinations, and it’s much earlier than originally expected thanks to the huge response from pharmacists and technicians to administer vaccines.
Mayo Clinic Health System said locally, a team of more than ten pharmacists are ready to immunize the community.
Another team is being assembled to prepare vaccine syringes for the immunization clinic.
One Mayo pharmacist said Tuesday it has been a difficult year, but she’s optimistic about the future.
Another round of Coffee & Conversations to help parents during pandemic

LA CROSSE, Wis (WKBT) – Another round of Coffee and Conversations is set this time focusing on Positive Parenting. Coffee and Conversations is a series of public talks centered around community and parenting in La Crosse.
The upcoming talk aims to help keep parents positive throughout the Pandemic and beyond. A virtual session will be run by Dr. Joseph Poterucha, the Chair of Pediatrics with Mayo Clinic Health System. He said in order for parents to best help children, they must be able to help themselves and accept when they may need help.
