ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) Mayo Clinic Health System announced Thursday that the future expansion to the Onalaska clinic will house an MRI scanner to increase imaging capabilities.
The $4.9 million project includes a fully outfitted single MRI bay for the fixed, wide-bore 3T-strength MRI scanner, as well as unfinished shell space for future MRI expansion on the west side of the clinic. Construction is expected to begin in the spring with the new MRI fully operational in early 2022.
“This exciting expansion will increase advanced imaging options for multiple specialties, including orthopedic and sports medicine, oncologic, urologic and neurologic exams,” said Dr. Janel Glantz, the radiology department chair. “It will also improve our patients’ experience by reducing MRI scan times and providing more comfortable wide-bore scanning capability.”

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) The Coulee COVID-19 Collaborative attributed the origin of 105 cases this week to people who attended a holiday gathering where they either were exposed to COVID-19 or where they exposed others.
“Additionally, there were four churches with multiple cases who attended in-person church services while infectious,” according to the collaborative’s summary released Wednesday.
These numbers are early and may increase as investigations are completed and more cases analyzed, the summary said.
The overall positive ratio has increased to 32.9%, meaning that nearly one in three people tested for COVID-19 test positive.

Staff at Mayo Clinic Health System in Prairie Du Chien rolled up their sleeves Tuesday.
Health care staff said being able to receive the vaccine on-site was really beneficial for both staff and patients.
“Being so rural and far away from the La Crosse hub, it eliminated the drive time to and from La Crosse and we were able to maintain operations all day and continue to see the same level of patients,” said Madalyn Buschman, Operations Manager, Mayo Clinic Health System – Prairie Du Chien.

On your mark, get set, go! Registration for the 2021 Mankato Marathon presented by Mayo Clinic Health System is opening on January 11 with early bird pricing. Plans for an in-person event are underway, along with a virtual option. Based on the current MN guidelines, races will open with a reduced number of spaces and will be increased as allowed. Should the Mankato Marathon have to change the in-person event this year to virtual, runners would receive a 40% discount towards future races.
“The Mankato Marathon continues to be recognized within the running community. Although we weren’t able to run in person last year, we had more states represented than any other year, so our base is growing. We’re hoping to continue to gain new runners who heard about it and want to give it a try for themselves,” said Anna Thill, president of Visit Mankato.
