A Hennepin County District Court judge has granted a motion to join the cases of the four former Minneapolis police officers charged in the death of George Floyd into one case.

Authorities on Tuesday identified the man who was fatally shot during an apparent confrontation on Christmas Eve at the Lake Street light rail station in Minneapolis.
Malcolm J. Williams, 29, of Minneapolis, was shot multiple times and died about 2:25 p.m. Thursday, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner s Office.
No arrests have been announced in connection with the incident that unfolded inside the station s vestibule.
There have been 82 homicides in Minneapolis this year. One more before 2020 ends Thursday would tie 1996 for the second deadliest year, but still far behind the 97 killings in the Murderapolis year of 1995.

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. Brooklyn Park Police said two people were found dead inside a vehicle on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers were responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on Zane Avenue near 63rd Avenue North. Police said the caller told them the vehicle had been there for several days, and believed there was a body inside.
When officers arrived, they found two people dead.
Police said there does not appear to be any sign of foul play; however, the Hennepin County Crime Scene Investigation Unit is investigating, and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner will determine identities and causes of death.
Eight minutes changed the course of 2020.
It was Memorial Day. May 25. George Floyd was being arrested by Minneapolis police outside of a grocery store after authorities received a 911 call that someone paid with a counterfeit bill. The caller told authorities the man was acting erratically. Floyd, who is Black, matched the caller’s description of the suspect.
Minneapolis police officers responded and handcuffed Floyd. Shortly thereafter, Officer Derek Chauvin, who is white, was caught on camera kneeling on Floyd’s neck on the curb of the city street.
Floyd pleaded with Chauvin, gasping that he couldn’t breathe. He became unresponsive and later died at a nearby medical center.
