SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is on Saturday, April 24. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department along with TASK, will be at Safeway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to take in all medication for disposal.
This national event addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives in 2019. The survey also showed that a majority of misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

WEST MICHIGAN â Michigan State Police will participate in Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 24, MSP tells us.
Weâre told lobbies at MSP posts in Grand Rapids, Lakeview, Mount Pleasant and Hart will be open between 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. for residents to drop off unwanted prescription medication in each postâs Drug Take Back box.
Participants are instructed to empty all pills and tablets into a zip lock bag and remove all labels before recycling pill bottles.
MSP says liquids and âsharpsâ will not be accepted.
Ten years ago, a Crockett Intermediate School student, a member of the schoolâs Future Problem Solving Team, Zain Syed, suggested using publicly accessible drop boxes for use in disposing of unwanted or out-dated prescription medications as a means of helping to control prescription drug abuse in the community. Now, Paris Regional Medical Center is continuing that effort.
âThe U.S. Department of Justiceâs Drug Enforcement Administrationâs next National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is April 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.,â said Savannah Abbott, director of marketing and communications at Paris Regional Medical Center. âWe have a drug take back station in our lobby and would love to invite community members to utilize it any time, but especially on [that date].â
