KNBN NewsCenter1 Readiatrics Book Drive donates over 5,000 books for area children Community members and businesses donated new and gently used books for children to the drive that will go to families experiencing challenges. May 19, 2021 RAPID CITY, S.D. This year’s Readiatrics Book Drive came to a conclusion today with the donation of about 5,000 books from various businesses who hosted the book drive bins, including the RC Public Library, Dahl Arts Center, Books a Million, Fire Station #1, The Cave Collective and all of the Black Hills Federal Credit Union locations. Readiatrics Book Drive Established in 2001 by Darla Drew, the drive collects approximately 3,000 to 5,000 books each year.

To celebrate Arbor Day, Black Hills Federal Credit Union made a donation of $1,100 to the Jasper Fire Reforestation Project. BHFCU teamed up with the Black Hills National Forest Service to enroll members in paperless statements; each member that switched to eStatements counted as a one dollar donation. “Arbor Day is observed by planting trees, and this year BHFCU wanted to be a part of that in a local way,” said Leslie Millard, Marketing Communications Specialist. “With help from our members, we have funded the planting of 1,300 trees in the Black Hills. I would call that a success!”
