NORRISTOWN â After weeks of dealing with a spring surge in COVID-19 cases, Montgomery County officials appeared encouraged Wednesday by this weekâs decrease in the COVID-19 positivity rate and increasing vaccination numbers as the battle against the pandemic continued.
âWe appear to be turning a corner and hopefully this is the case,â county Commissionersâ Chairwoman Dr. Valerie Arkoosh said during a news briefing at which officials reviewed the latest vaccination, hospitalization and virus case data.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported on Wednesday that 180,948 county residents have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Another 226,127 county residents have received a first dose of vaccine, according to state data, which includes those who have received vaccine through the county Office of Public Health and at all other locations, such as pharmacies.

BLUE BELLÂ â Montgomery County Community College announced the appointment of Kyle Longacre, of Harleysville, as the new Dean of Workforce and Economic Development following a competitive national search.
In this position, Longacre will provide strategic leadership of MCCCâs Workforce Development initiatives and will build and maintain relationships with local employers, government and non-profit agencies and economic development organizations. As a member of the academic leadership team, he will work closely with dean colleagues to develop new pathways, options, and stackable credentials from non-credit to credit offerings.
He also will oversee the launching and implementation of the new Baker Center of Excellence for Employee Ownership and Business Transformation. The Baker Center of Excellence will provide educational programs and resources for employee-owned companies, including those considering or participating in employee stock ownership plans or ESOPs.

NORRISTOWN â Nearly 500 Montgomery County residents tested positive for the coronavirus during the latest three-day period, according to county health statistics.
The 473 daily new positive COVID-19 cases, reported in the county during the three-day period Saturday through Monday, brought the countyâs total number of positive cases to 56,533 since March 7, 2020, when the first two cases of the virus were identified in the county, according to the countyâs COVID-19 online dashboard. Three of the daily new cases were individuals who resided in long-term care facilities.
Officials reported no new COVID-19 deaths during the three-day period, leaving the countyâs death toll to 1,281 since the pandemic began a year ago.
