20 Years imprisonment for attempted murder and hijacking

On 28 July 2021, Kimberley Magistrates’ Court sentenced Chris Potgieter aged 43, to 20 years direct imprisonment for hijacking and attempted murder. It was In March 2020 when a male person was hijacked and shot at the Boshoff road in Kimberley. Provincial Organised Crime Unit immediately commenced with the investigation which led them to the suspect’s hideout in Wolmaransstad. The firearm used to commit crime was recovered together with 15 live rounds of 9mm ammunition, three shot gun rounds, two knives and blood stained clothes. The hijacked vehicle was also found abandoned by Wolmaransstad police. Potgieter was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years’ direct imprisonment for attempted murder and hijacking.
