Jamshedpur: The district administration has begun a massive cleanliness drive across all the low-lying areas near Subarnarekha, Kharkhai and Domuhani .
Ranchi Meteorological Centre has issued a high alert in view of the approaching tropical cyclone, Yaas, warning residents of extremely heavy rainfall in southern Jharkhand comprising the three Kolhan districts of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela- Kharsawan on Wednesday and Thursday.
The forecast for Wednesday, May 26, also suggested moderate thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40kmph to 60 kmph in the day and 110kmph-120 kmph towards the evening in southern Jharkhand. The rest of the state is expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds at speeds of 40kmph to 60 kmph in some places.
While isolated heavy (65mm to 115mm) to very heavy (115mm to 204mm) rainfall is predicted in north and central Jharkhand, extremely heavy rainfall (over 205mm in 24 hours) is apprehnded in southern Jharkhand.
Steel city school turned into Covid care centre 30-bed facility with three doctors and six nurses to monitor patients round the clock
Mango-based Kerala Public School has become the first school in Jamshedpur to be converted into a Covid care centre equipped with oxygen cylinders.
The school is lying closed for more than a year due to the pandemic.
The 30-bed facility was inaugurated by Banna Gupta, state health minister and MLA from Jamshedpur West constituency, on Sunday evening.
He was accompanied by district civil surgeon A.K. Lal, director of Kerala Public School, Sharad Chandran and special officer of Mango Notified Area Committee, Deepak Sahay.
Jamshedpur: With fresh cases of Covid-19 increasing, the number of micro containment zones rose to 486 in East Singhbhum district on Sunday. Of the three municipal areas, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has the maximum number of containment zones at 350.
While Mango Notified Area Committee houses 75 micro containment zones, Jugsalai Municipality has four and 57 have been set up in the peripheral areas of Jamshedpur. Of the 1,340 active cases in the district, almost 90% are from the Steel City. In the urban circle, Kadma, Mango, Sonari, Sakchi, Bistupur, Telco and Sidhgora, have been identified as Covid-19 hot spots as most number of cases have surfaced from these parts.
The East Singhbhum health authorities carried out a special Covid-19 testing drive in various urban and rural areas on Wednesday.
Camps were set up in various rural blocks and urban areas for the purpose.
Officials of civic bodies like Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) and Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) with incident commanders assisted the health authorities during the special drive.
All visitors at Sakchi market had to undergo the RT-PCR test at the Bazar Master s office.
Similarly, visitors to other markets like Mango and Golmuri also had to undergo RT-PCR test.
JNAC special officer Krishna Kumar said the special test drive was carried out to gauge the extent of cases, which are on the rise for the last couple of weeks.
