They are in excellent shape, to be honest, John Barrett said Wednesday. We don t have any problems. Chairwoman Christine Hoyt said she asked Barrett to come before the board after non-working hydrants created challenges for North Adams firefighters in two winter structure fires this year. This seems to be a topic in some of our neighboring communities, she said. We thought it would be a good reminder of the health of some of our own infrastructure. North Adams has 631 fire hydrants of which more than 500 are fully functional. Around 55 need to be fully replaced and another 3 that were repaired, according to updated numbers given on Wednesday.
WILLIAMSTOWN â In light of ongoing tensions among members and with the community, the Select Board on Friday will engage in a training session to learn how to more effectively communicate.
Kerri Nicoll, an associate professor of sociology, anthropology and social work at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, will serve as moderator for the three-hour retreat via Zoom.
âThe hope is that members of the Select Board, as town leaders, can think of different ways to interact with the public,â Nicoll told The Eagle on Tuesday. âAnd this is not unique to Williamstown. This kind of discord between leadership and the public is going on all over, with many people recognizing that we need to be more inclusive than in the past.â

Matt Dunne, the founder and executive director at the center on rural innovation
will host a lecture entitled: The Digital Economy in Rural America: Closing the Opportunity Gap on Thursday, March 11th, 2021 at 6:30 pm. Massachusetts State Representative Tricia Farley-Bouvier will moderate this lecture as she addresses the lack of broadband infrastructure as many communities are facing significant barriers to building sustainable economic impact in a connected world.
