Tisbury EMS and police arrived on scene quickly. The bicyclist was evaluated in an ambulance. One of his friends said he appears to be okay. Lane restrictions went into effect beginning May 1 with travel restricted from two lanes in each direction to a single lane in each direction, according to a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers release. The lane restrictions will be in place 24 hours a day until Memorial Day weekend.
Traffic approaching the bridge was backed up at least a couple of miles in both directions at about 8 a.m., according to a Massachusetts Department of Transportation traffic map. Traffic along the Scenic Highway between the Bourne and Sagamore bridges was also slowed.
