An early concept drawing of a roundabout at the Five Corners intersection of Routes 7 and 43 in Williamstown.MASS. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
WILLIAMSTOWN â Early reviews are mixed on a proposed roundabout at Five Corners in Williamstown. People have until Feb. 3 to comment on a project that is years away, if it happens at all.
Using traffic data, designers estimate that the number of crashes at Five Corners is likely to decrease by about 71 percent with a roundabout, while fatal and serious-injury crashes likely would decrease by about 87 percent.

âIâm not in favor of it. That intersection is definitely a problem, but I just donât think a roundabout is the right way to go. And that is a beautiful entrance to town. I donât see how a roundabout will make it any better.â

Massachusetts Department of Transportation Secretary and CEO Stephanie Pollack is stepping down from her post next week, when she will head to Washington, D.C., to begin as deputy administrator of the Federal Highway Administration, Gov. Charlie Baker announced Thursday.
Pollack, who has helmed MassDOT since 2015, will be temporarily serving as the FHWA’s acting administrator under the Biden Administration until a permanent administrator is confirmed by the U.S. Senate, according to a press release from Baker’s office.
Her final day in her current role will be Jan. 26. She begins her federal position the following day.
With the change-up, Baker has tapped Registrar of Motor Vehicles Jamey Tesler to serve as acting secretary.
The museum is seeking town funds to pay about 17 percent of the $301,600 cost of dismantling, preserving and reassembling an historic Williamstown barn on the institution s grounds. We re hopeful we ll get at least a portion of the funding for this project, said Sarah Currie, a member of the commission who also serves as executive director for the museum. It s important, we think to save this barn because this is one of an ever dwindling collection of barns like this. They often fall into disrepair and are demolished, and their stories can t be told. It s significant to the town because agriculture was so significant to the town.
