Students of the Institute of Foreign Languages Elena Petrova and Anna Zhestkova (specialization “Pedagogical Education”, profile “French and English”) and teacher of the Department of German and French languages Khankevich Ekaterina Andreevna are finishing their studies at the Higher School of Translators of the Free University of Brussels.
The Higher School of Translation and Interpretation (ISTI), which has been part of the Free University of Brussels since 2015, trains future translators in 9 languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Turkish and Russian. Thanks to international recognition and 60 years of experience (ISTI was founded in 1958), the School has signed cooperation and mobility agreements with 110 universities in more than 30 countries.

Every year, the French Embassy in the Russian Federation conducts a competitive selection for participation in the program “Assistant teacher of the Russian language in France” for senior students of pedagogical specialties. Students of the Institute of Foreign Languages of PetrSU, studying French, once again successfully passed the qualifying round and got the opportunity to show their pedagogical capabilities.
This is a joint program of the French Institute and the International Center for Educational Research (CIEP), which allows Russian students to work in secondary educational institutions as an assistant teacher of the Russian language.
The assistants are called upon to open the peculiarities of the Russian language, civilization and culture to French schoolchildren. Thus, they contribute to raising the prestige of Russia in France and at the same time raise the level of the French language, acquiring knowledge about French culture.

On March 11, students of the Institute of Foreign Languages of Petrozavodsk State University met with students and schoolchildren from the sister city of Tubingen. The meeting was held in the videoconference mode on the ZOOM platform.
This is the first of four planned meetings within the framework of the virtual bilingual round table “Tourist Karelia”, organized annually under the leadership of Associate Professor of the Department of German and French languages E.N. Vorotilina and senior lecturer of the Department of Foreign Languages of Humanities O.O. Nikolaeva. One of the initiators of the meeting was the Karelian Foundation for the Development of People’s Diplomacy, headed by N.V. Lavrushina. The meeting was moderated by Stephan Klingebiel, an expert from the Youth Department of the City Hall of Tübingen.

Students of the Institute of Foreign Languages of PetrSU took part in the annual All-Russian action “Tolles Diktat” (Dictation in German), which, unlike other similar actions, is not called “total”, since this adjective for the German mentality has negative connotations (cf. for example: “total surveillance”, “totalitarianism”, etc.).
Therefore, for this event, the phrase Tolles Diktat (“Excellent dictation”) is used.
This year, the dictation was held in closed groups, only for students of each IRL group, strictly in accordance with the requirements of safety rules during a pandemic. The texts of the dictation, correlating with the levels of the Common European Language Competence A1-C1, were devoted to a variety of topics: from the adventures of Baron Munchausen (A1) to historical episodes in the life of the Volga Germans (C1).
