Tears as Plateau varsity student who died during protest is buried

Punch Newspapers Sections Published 3:37 am The remains of a 100-level undergraduate of the Plateau State University, Emmanuel Israel, who died during a protest against insecurity in the institution were buried on Saturday amid tears and tributes in the Mangu Local Government Area of the state. The burial, which took place in the Mangul community around 12pm, was attended by grieving students, relatives and staff of the university including well-wishers who paid their last respects. The student was confirmed dead a few hours after he fell off a moving vehicle during the protest on Tuesday, April 13. He was said to be the class representatives of the Mathematics Department and died from the head injuries he sustained after the fall.

UDS Community Hails New Registrar s Appointment

The University for Development Studies (UDS) community is excited over the appointment of Mr. Nurudeen Issah Abubakar as the new Registrar designate. Mr. Abubakar s elevation follows the recent enskinment of the incumbent Registrar, Dr. A. B. T Zakariah as the Chief of Buipe Traditional Area (Buipewura) in the Savannah Region. Reacting to this outcome, most Staff, Lecturers and Students of the University described him as a worthy successor to Dr. A. B. T Zakariah. This appointment announced by the UDS Governing Council takes effect 1st September 2021. Mr. Nurudeen Issah Abubakar has been a Deputy Registrar in charge of Academic and Students Affairs.

UDS appoints Nurudeen Issah Abubakar as Registrar

+ The University for Development Studies (UDS) has appointed Nurudeen Issah Abubakar as the new Registrar of the University. This appointment takes effect from September 1, this year. The decision was announced after a meeting held by the Governing Council of the University on Thursday. Mr Issah Abubakar until his appointment, was the Deputy Registrar in charge of Academic and Students Affairs. He was appointed Assistant Registrar since 2001 and has held other portfolios including Assitant Registrar and Faculty of Officer/School Officer at the School of Medicine. He also works at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor and the directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance (DAPQA).
