Ledding Library and Milwaukie History Society have partnered on a 6:30 p.m. program set for Wednesday, Feb. 3, titled Celebrating Black Excellence.
Greg Frank Hemer of the Historical Society said organizers decided to change the title of their annual Black History Month program to Celebrating Black Excellence in an effort to tie together historical trends and increase the impact of our shared history. History should enhance all in a timeline, and calling out a designated month segregates our history, Hemer said.

Mrs. Albin Peterson is confined in the Home hospital with severe internal injuries incurred late Saturday afternoon, when the light truck which she had been riding ran over her abdomen.Mr. and Mrs. Peterson were returning to their ranch at Bear creek buttes and when they were five or six miles out on the Prineville-Redmond highway, Mrs. Peterson stepped out of the cab to see if the chicken and other things in the back of the truck were safe, her foot slipped and she fell under the machine.

Members of the Prineville volunteer fire department took the two big firetrucks on a slippery run Tuesday night in response to a fire alarm, and then used a back pump and a couple of handsaws to put out the fire!An overheated flu started the blaze in the rafters. The firemen subdued the flames with a few squirts from a back pump, sawed out the charred boards and carried what was left of the fire outside.
