Burlington man sentenced for drug and gun charges

A Burlington man charged with drug trafficking and gun possession learned his sentence Wednesday.
United States District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey sentenced Adam Brent Branton, 39, to more than 21 years in prison for the distribution of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a firearm, Acting United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal announced Friday.
Jarvey sentenced Branton to 262 months in prison for the meth charge and 120 months in prison for the gun charge. The sentences will run concurrently.
Branton also was ordered to serve five years of supervised release and pay $200 to the Crime Victims’ Fund after his prison term.

(Davenport, IA) An eastern Iowa man s been sentenced to 10-years in prison for selling heroin. Police say Eric Rhine of North Liberty and Robert Rankins Junior were accused of getting the drug in Chicago and selling it in Johnson County. Rankins was sentenced earlier this month to seven years in prison.
United States District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered Rhine to serve five years of supervised release as well as pay $100 to the Crime Victims’ Fund.
This investigation began in 2018 involving narcotics trafficking between Johnson County and Chicago, Illinois. Rhine admitted the conspiracy was sold more than 1,000 grams of heroin and he was supplying heroin to numerous individuals in the Iowa City/Coralville/North Liberty area.

Burlington man sentenced for methamphetamine

A Burlington man was sentenced to 12 years in prison on methamphetamine charges.
United States District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey on Dec. 23 sentenced Anthony David Collins, 30, to 144 months in prison for distribution of methamphetamine, United States Attorney Marc Krickbaum announced in a recent media release.
Collins was ordered to also serve five years of supervised release and pay $300 to the Crime Victims’ Fund.
Police started an investigation 2017 when law enforcement identified Collins as a distributor of methamphetamine in the Burlington area. Law enforcement bought ice methamphetamine from Collins on seven separate occasions between 2017 and 2019, the release says.
