Bruce Carmichael, left, and Chris Conabee recently joined the Snyderville Basin Planning Commission. Carmichael is a recently retired U.S. Air Force veteran and Conabee is a real estate developer. Both said that growth was coming to the Basin and hoped to shape it to benefit the community.

The Snyderville Basin Planning Commission has two new members, one of whom has flown to the edge of space and seen the curvature of the earth, while the other has concentrated on more terrestrial endeavors, helping to develop big-name projects like the Goldener Hirsch Inn expansion at Deer Valley Resort and the Utah Inland Port.
The art of sustainable tourism
“Sustainable Tourism” is one of the most popular ideas to emerge from Park City’s 2020 visioning process. Everybody loves it and wants it … if only we knew what it is. It seems to have something to do with tourism conforming to and strengthening local values, such as social equity and environmental sustainability.
I propose here another specific, measurable aspect of sustainable tourism: It does not take direct public subsidy. That is, it is financially self-supporting, not requiring assistance from local property taxation. Hold that thought a moment.
So, let’s discuss the evolving arts and culture district from this perspective. Although we call it a “district,” it is really about two big and growing dogs, Sundance Institute and Kimball Art Center, both of which happen to need permanent, statement headquarters facilities.

There have been several stories and statistics around the boom in real estate and particularly the second home market in 2020. Increased interest and purchases in asset acquisition have primarily been domestic, but as we slowly inch toward having more confidence in traveling abroad, there is a window to take advantage of the opportunities elsewhere. While the global pandemic and its effects are not gone, there have been advancements: Between vaccine distribution, multiple vaccine options available and increased testing programs at airports, that postponed trip to Paris, Capri, Berlin may no longer have to be a far-off dream.
