All Grand Rapids Griffins home games to be televised

Grand Rapids Griffins fans will not be permitted to attend the team’s Feb. 20 home opener at the Van Andel Arena due to coronavirus restrictions.
Fans will still be able to catch the game, however, and all of the rest of the Griffins’ home games this season, too. The team announced Friday that WXSP-TV will televise Grand Rapids’ 15 home games.

The Chicago Wolves became the American Hockey League’s first 4-0 team and kept the Grand Rapids Griffins winless Thursday afternoon, breaking a third-period tie before adding an empty-netter for a 4-2 win at the Triphahn Center Ice Arena in Chicago.
Dennis Cholowski scored his first goal of the season 6:07 into the third to complete Grand Rapids’ comeback from a 2-0 deficit, but David Cotton notched his second of the game 1:26 later to put Chicago ahead for good.
Grand Rapids Griffins announcer Bob Kaser undergoes successful heart surgery

The Griffins are proceeding without veteran play-by-play announcer Bob Kaser, however.
Team officials announced Thursday on its social media channels that Kaser, known as the Voice of the Griffins for more than two decades, underwent successful heart surgery to clear several blocked arteries Monday at the Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids. Officials added that Kaser will miss the better part of Grand Rapids’ 30-game schedule.

Kyle Criscuolo provided an early spark in his first game with the Grand Rapids Griffins since hoisting the Calder Cup in 2017, but the Chicago Wolves responded with a goal in each period to take a 3-1 win in the 2020-21 season opener for both teams at the Triphahn Center Ice Arena on Friday.
