Mamata Banerjee s Trinamool Congress is likely to get a third straight term in Bengal, though with a majority greatly shrunk, an aggregate of eight exit polls indicate. The challenger BJP s goal replacing Trinamool as the ruling party with 200 assembly seats might have to wait, the numbers also indicate. The party is likely to emerge a close second to the Trinamool a sea change from the paltry few seats it currently has in the assembly, showed NDTV s poll of exit polls.

New Delhi: Mamata Banerjee s Trinamool Congress is set to retain power in West Bengal, all exit polls, except two, indicated after the month-long, eight-phase Assembly polls ended on Thursday.
Apart from the Axis My India-India Today and the Republic-CNX exit polls, which gave the BJP an edge in the battleground state, all other surveys, including the CVoter Exit Poll for Times Now/ABP News, forecast a third victory for the Trinamool, putting it ahead in the 294-member Assembly.

Exit polls on Thursday, at the end of Assembly elections in five States, predicted a mixed bag for the BJP. While the party is seen romping home in Assam, the polls give a clear edge to Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. The pollsters were near unanimous in predicting a sweep for the DMK in Tamil Nadu and a comeback for the Pinarayi Vijayan-led Left front in Kerala.
The BJP was seen making significant gains in West Bengal but, barring the CNX-Republic poll, which showed a hung Assembly with the BJP having the edge, and Jan Ki Baat that predicted a sweep for the BJP with 174 seats in the 292-member Assembly, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was predicted to return to power. The predictions for the TMC getting a clear majority came from TimesNow/C-Voter, P-Marq and ETG, which gave the party between 158 and 169 s
