Barbara Ann (Rynders) Gibbons, 82, Godfrey, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 2 in her home surrounded by her children holding her hands.
She was born on September 10, 1938, in Alton, the daughter of Frank W. and Sabina (Berghoff) Rynders. The importance of family was there from the beginning: growing up with five older brothers and one younger sister. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Parochial Grade School and graduated from Marquette Catholic High School. Her lifetime service of positively influencing lives began when she taught third grade at St. Mary’s Parochial Grade School, second grade at St. Ambrose Parochial Grade School, and then as a full-time homemaker.

GODFREY The RiverBend Growth Association’s Young Adults Committee recently held its year-end ceremony virtually.
The committee’s students, mentors and nine local member non-profit organizations were recognized for all their hard work during the 2020-2021 school year. This year the committee held a raffle that raised $10,000.
The committee has two seniors and two juniors from each of the five participating high schools: Alton High School, Civic Memorial High School, East Alton-Wood River High School, Marquette Catholic High School and Roxana High School.
This year the committee heard presentations virtually from nine RBGA member organizations: Alton Parks & Recreation, American Cancer Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Call for Help, Community Hope Center, Jacoby Arts Center, Kreative Kids, Madison County Child Advocacy Center, and Riverbend Family Ministries.
While walking to school on his last day before retirement, Principal Mike Slaughter was welcomed by crowds of students and school faculty for a proper goodbye.
