Janice Matthews always knew she would be a gun owner someday. She was raised in Alabama where her family members rarely left their home unarmed. Still, after more than three decades in California she wasn’t in a rush to start shopping around at gun stores. Then the pandemic hit.
Matthews started hearing rumors of food shortages and noticed store shelves emptied by shoppers panic-buying everything from bullets to toilet paper. After her daughter moved out of their home, she was left with an empty nest and a lot of anxiety.
“I was thinking of what they predicted in the Bible and I thought I would have to protect the little bit that I had,” Matthews, 55, recalled.

USWNT s reason for no longer taking the knee during the national anthem

Following the death of George Floyd in May 2020 - an unarmed black man who was killed by a white police officer - sports teams across the globe have protested against racial inequality by taking the knee.
The gesture was first adopted by American Football quarterback Colin Kaepernick in August 2016 when he knelt instead of standing during the US national anthem to protest against police brutality and systematic racism.

The “Mother Members” of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, have elevated the simplicity of children at play to meet that they believe are the complexities of growing up African American in the United States.
Columbus Ohio Chapter President Jami Jones Ervin called it fun with focus, “We are dedicated to pouring into and creating the next generation of leaders,” she said.
Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated is an African American organization of mothers representing over 40,000 family members nationwide. Moms hold the membership, but the entire family is involved.
