21 people arrested on July 29, 2021 in connection with drug-related indictments handed out by a Martinsville Grand Jury
MARTINSVILLE, Va. – The Martinsville Police Department arrested nearly two dozen people on Thursday in connection with indictments recently handed down by a grand jury.
On Monday, a Martinsville Grand Jury met and handed down 123 indictments on 27 people for crimes related to illegal drugs, according to the Police Department.
On Thursday, police, with the assistance of the Martinsville Sheriff’s Office, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, the United States Marshal’s Service, as well as the Martinsville Henry County 911 Center arrested 21 people on 84 of the indictments.

Mental health database launched for first responders
HENRY COUNTY, Va. – A new database will keep Henry County and Martinsville citizens and first responders safer in an emergency.
JR Powell, the dispatch director for the Martinsville-Henry County 911 Center, said law enforcement doesn’t always know what to expect on a 911 call. They also don’t always know when someone’s having a mental health crisis, which can be dangerous for the citizen and the first responder.

Two found dead inside Henry County home
HENRY COUNTY, Va. – Two people were found dead inside a Bassett home Thursday afternoon, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 1:30 p.m., the Martinsville-Henry County 911 Center received a call about the dead bodies inside a home located at 151 Belcroft Circle.
Deputies responded to the scene and found 68-year-old Luther Wagoner and 78-year-old Pennar Helton, who they say both were residents of that home.
