The Martha’s Vineyard Commission closed out the public hearing for modifications to the Harbor View Hotel, leaving the written record open for two more weeks. The hearing was the fourth for the project.
The company proposes to build a 4,625-square-foot spa at the hotel’s Bradley Cottage with seven treatment rooms, instead of building a 1,620-square-foot spa at the main hotel. The Bradley Cottage rooms would be reduced from 12 to four, and a room would be added at the Pease Cottage. There are no net changes to the rooms, since eight rooms are added to the main hotel and the Pease Cottage and eight rooms removed from the Bradley Cottage.
Falmouth residents have once again called for changes to the Steamship Authority ferry schedule that would drop the 5:30 AM freight boat out of Woods Hole.
About 120 participants logged on to a virtual Steamship hearing on Monday, May 3, to offer testimony against the proposed 2022 schedule, including an early morning freight run that has angered many Falmouth residents since it began in 2012. Woods Hole residents say the freight trucks cause excessive noise as they travel down Woods Hole Road starting before 5 AM. Many said they feel the Authority has not been taking their objections on this perennial issue seriously and doubt the boat line is looking into long-term planning as demand for goods and freight on Marthaâs Vineyard grows.

MVC approves Stone Bank condos
Harbor View hearing continued to next week.
A courtyard would be added in place of several parking spots at a proposed development in Vineyard Haven.
The Martha’s Vineyard Commission unanimously approved the old Stone Bank project in Vineyard Haven, which will turn the historic fieldstone building, formerly the Santander Bank, into a mixed-use condominium and commercial business development.
The project is being proposed by Island developer Sam Dunn, who wants to renovate two existing buildings and construct five new buildings for a total of 11 condo units and six commercial units. The project would reduce parking from 35 to 19 spaces, and includes pedestrian pathways and a small courtyard. In total, the project would have 14 bedrooms.

Martha s Vineyard Museum entered a memorandum of understanding with Tisbury that includes paying $5,000 per year in lieu of taxes.
The Martha’s Vineyard Museum will pay Tisbury $5,000 per year in lieu of taxes as part of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) approved unanimously by the select board Tuesday night.
The MOU codifies the conditions that were part of the development of regional impact (DRI) approval of the museum by the Martha’s Vineyard Commission, such as how many events can be held, and deals with some of the early issues with events at the museum, which opened in 2019, like the permitting process and parking.
