Pump the brakes on SUP - The Martha s Vineyard Times

The Martha s Vineyard Times Pump the brakes on SUP The shared-use path (SUP) proposed now under construction (and delay) by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) on Beach Road in Vineyard Haven should be a cautionary tale for Oak Bluffs. The first phase of the Oak Bluffs project is designed to go from Lagoon Pond Drawbridge to the intersection of County and Eastville Avenue, with the idea of eventually having it go through downtown Oak Bluffs and connect to the existing SUP that leads to Edgartown. No one fully did their homework on the SUP in Vineyard Haven, and now it’s a mess. It turns out there are water and sewer lines that will be costly to move in the way of the construction. In meetings closed to public access even though they’re talking about millions of dollars in taxpayer money officials from MassDOT and the town point fingers at each other. (We’ve asked for access to these meetings, and been told they’re not public.)

Don t take a chance on synthetic turf - The Martha s Vineyard Times

The Martha s Vineyard Times Don’t take a chance on synthetic turf The following letter was submitted to the Martha’s Vineyard Commission. I am writing to urge you to not permit the use of an artificial turf field in the new proposed high school athletic project. I ask you to review, and if necessary, further validate the testimony of Jerad Minnick that natural grass fields can be installed and maintained to a level satisfactory to the high school’s proposed use. Should you decide to approve the project, and that testimony proves valid, I ask that you condition the project to require 100 percent natural grass fields be incorporated.

Make the tough, right choice - The Martha s Vineyard Times

The Martha s Vineyard Times Make the tough, right choice The following letter was submitted to the Martha’s Vineyard Commission about the school field project. Thank you, commissioners, for your investment of time and energy in this process. I respect this process, and appreciate the opportunity to voice my thoughts.  It’s no secret that I’ve been opposed to this project since its inception. While I recognize the efforts made by MV@Play, the superintendent’s office, and the proponents of artificial turf to make this safer and more environmentally responsible, I believe that fact is that natural turf is the only truly safe field for our athletes and our Island.
