“I would rather stay under MECQ and then reassess again after two weeks,” Zamora told CNN Philippines in an interview.
“It’s really hard to open up the economy at this point because even if we are improving, I know we can improve further,” he added.
Zamora said he also supports the Department of Health and OCTA Research Group’s position on the extension of MECQ in Metro Manila.
The OCTA group had earlier urged the government not to lift the MECQ if the below one reproduction rate in Metro Manila is not “sustained.”

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said on Monday that there are more than 30 community pantries in San Juan that are offering “bayanihan” (community assistance) to those who were affected by the imposition of the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine in Metro Manila and in the nearby provinces of Laguna, Cavite, Rizal, and Bulacan due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have about 30 community pantries all over San Juan and I’m sure that this number will be increasing per day because I see it on social media and I also see it when I go around by bike or by car,” Zamora said in an interview with CNN Philippines.

Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco
“Sana pwede kasi nahihirapan naman talaga lahat pag naghihigpit (I hope it’s possible because it’s really hard for everyone),” Mayor Tiangco said in an interview with DZRH on Monday.
Tiangco said he thinks the people will be more cautious even when the quarantine classification shifts from the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) to the General Community Quarantine (GCQ).
“Ang observation ko kasi parang ‘yung mga tao takot na ngayon kesa noong dati, so sa tingin ko at sana tama ito kahit magluwag hindi na sila ganun ka-kampante tulad ng dati (My observation is that people are more scared now, so I think and I hope it’s right that even if restrictions ease, they won’t be as complacent as before),” he said.
