The victim works as a domestic help at a local politician’s house and the incident came to light only after a video went viral on social media. Soon, the accused was traced and the District Women and Child Welfare department officials recorded the girl’s statement on Wednesday, during which the girl reportedly mentioned the name of the accused, who works as a cook. She told the officers that he had sexually assaulted her with a promise of marriage. The victim was seven-month pregnant.

Namakkal dist administration sets up task force

Updated: Share Article AAA District Collector K. Megraj has set up a seven-member task force committee to provide support to children orphaned after the death of their parents due to COVID-19 disease. Mr. Megraj said in a release that the members include District Child Protection Officer, Joint Director, Medical and Rural Health Services, Additional Superintendent of Police, District Social Welfare Officer, Chairman or member of Child Welfare Committee and an operator of children home recommended by Collector. He said the committee would provide necessary assistance for these children. The district administration requested the public to inform the committee if there are any such children.

Homes for children of COVID-hit parents

Virudhunagar Virudhunagar district administration has arranged shelter, food and protection for children, whose parents are either under treatment or dead due to COVID, in two homes in the district. In a statement, Collector R. Kannan said that the District Child Welfare Committee and the District Child Protection Unit have identified V.V. Vanniyaperumal Anbu Illam for boys and Annai Therasa Children’s Home in Sattur for girls. Those who come across such destitute children can inform the Chairperson, CWC, M.M.S.S.S.
