A Florida teenager was killed in a 7-vehicle accident that occurred on Interstate 35 in Belton, authorities said Wednesday.
The boy, 13, was not immediately identified by the Texas Department of Public Safety because of his age, Sgt. Bryan Washko said.
âDue to the victim being a juvenile, his name is not being released,â Washko said.
The accident occurred Tuesday on northbound I-35 between Shanklin Road and Loop 121 as traffic was stopped in Belton for an emergency road bridge work that started Monday night. Five others were injured and remain in Temple hospitals.
A possibly distracted pickup driver on northbound I-35 did not observed the stopped traffic until the last second, Washko said.
A Temple man was indicted on a sexual assault of a child charge by a Bell County grand jury Wednesday after he impregnated a 15-year-old girl.
Orlando Mike Martinez â also charged last year with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child â remained in the Bell County Jail Thursday with bonds set at $400,000, jail records showed.
The 34-year-old is accused of impregnating the teenager while living with the girlâs family, according to arrest affidavits.
The girl reported to Temple Police Department that she was a sexual abuse victim for several years, beginning in elementary school, and named Martinez as her attacker and the father of the child. The girl said the abuse started again when Martinez moved in.
