Truckers, some stuck in Mississippi for days, still waiting to get on the road again

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - The Mississippi Department of Public Safety is asking all motorists to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary. Many tractor trailers are still stranded on interstates.
Along Interstate 20, drivers of 18-wheelers are bracing for the long haul. Many of them have traveled from out of state. Some of the truckers have been stranded since Sunday.
While the lawsuits brought by victims of the Henry Pratt Co. warehouse shooting against the city of Aurora and its police department were dismissed by a judge last month, there are still lawsuits out against the Illinois State Police, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety and the shooter’s estate concerning the Feb. 15, 2019, mass shooting in Aurora.
Mississippi Medical Examiner resigns after being on leave

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) Mississippi State Medical Examiner Dr. Mark Levaughn has resigned, more than two months after he was placed on administrative leave for an undisclosed “personnel matter.”
Department of Public Safety Spokesman Chris Vignes confirmed with WLBT-TV on Thursday that Levaughn was stepping down.
Levaughn was placed on leave in November. Mississippi Department of Public Safety officials haven’t said why, and no criminal charges have been filed against Levaughn.

Levaughn spent around a decade with the State Medical Examiner’s office. His departure comes as the state’s underfunded and overburdened death investigations unit is facing a slew of backlogs and delays.
