When Modesti Cooper returned home to Houston in July 2019 after more than a decade overseas with the United States military, she moved into her dream house on the corner of Nance and Grove streets in Houston’s Fifth Ward. She’d bought a parcel of land and designed the home from scratch in her downtime while touring from Kuwait to Afghanistan to Iraq. JACKSON, Miss. (WLOX) - People who want a COVID-19 but struggle with traveling to a vaccination site are now getting some help from the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
MDOT is supporting a statewide initiative that helps residents to schedule free rides to local COVID-19 vaccination sites.
This program is not limited to a particular group, but there is an emphasis on helping those with transportation challenges, such as disabled or low-income individuals, veterans and the elderly.
“As more people get vaccinated, the number of COVID-19 cases throughout Mississippi continues to drop. MDOT’s goal is to keep that momentum by helping to make vaccination sites accessible to those with limited transportation options,” said Commissioner Tom King, Chairman of the Mississippi Transportation Commission. “This is just a small way MDOT can help

PEARL RIVER COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - An overturned 18-wheeler has one northbound lane of Interstate 59 blocked near Lumberton.
According to the Mississippi Department of Transportation, the crash happened just after 11 a.m., and traffic in the area could be affected for up to three hours.
Overturned tractor trailer on I-59 past MS 13 / E Main St / Lumberton EX 41 in Pearl River County has northbound traffic delayed.
Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers are responding to the crash.
