Ft Bayou Bridge now expected to remain closed until late May

Ft. Bayou Bridge now expected to remain closed until late May Updated Apr 09, 12:50 PM; Posted Apr 09, 12:50 PM Facebook Share OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. The Ft. Bayou Bridge, which closed to traffic March 14 and was expected to reopen by late April at the end of a $20 million repair project, will instead remain closed at least until late May after engineers determined the damage to the 30-year-old bridge is more extensive than originally believed. “The damage was much worse than we had anticipated,” said Project Engineer Jason Winders of the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT). “We could not determine the extent until we actually removed the parts and could inspect it firsthand.”
