The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 482 new cases of COVID-19 and six coronavirus-related deaths Friday through Sunday.
Since the virus hit the state in March 2020, a total of 316,754 cases and 7,285 coronavirus-related deaths have been reported.
According to a New York Times database, at least 189 new coronavirus deaths and 14,144 new cases were reported in the U.S. on Monday. Over the past week, there has been an average of 25,318 cases per day, a decrease of 38% from the average two weeks earlier.
According to health department data, 1,009,382 people have begun the vaccination process in Mississippi, as of Friday morning. Since December, about 878, people have been fully immunized against COVID-19.

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 482 new COVID-19 cases (includes Saturday and Sunday totals) and 6 new deaths Monday, May 24.
New COVID-19 related deaths reported to MSDH between May 21 and May 23. Four deaths occurred between May 19 and May 21 in the counties below:

As of Monday, May 24, there have been 316,754 total cases of the virus since mid-March, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 7,285 total deaths.

Residents between the ages of 25 and 39 represent the largest portion of the infected population in the state, with 70,171 cases reported Tuesday, the latest figure available. Among patients under 18, children between the ages of 11 and 17 have the highest infection rate, with 24,497 cases identified.
