Since the virus hit the state in March 2020, a total of 314,710 cases and 7,254 coronavirus-related deaths have been reported.  According to a New York Times database Friday, at least 780 new coronavirus deaths and 38,534 new cases were reported in the U.S. on Thursday. Over the past week, there has been an average of 35,496 cases per day, a decrease of 31% from the average two weeks earlier. The health department on Friday reported 26 outbreaks at Mississippi nursing homes. The update for the number of cases of the coronavirus and coronavirus-related deaths in long-term care facilities has been delayed as the data is under review, according to a message on the Mississippi State Department of Health s website.

The new cases were in Harrison County (15), Pearl River County (7), Jackson County (3), Hancock County (2), and George County (1). No new cases were reported in Stone County.
