COVID-19 in Mississippi: 334 new cases, 5 deaths reported April 28

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 334 new cases of COVID-19 and five coronavirus-related deaths Wednesday. Since the virus hit the state in March 2020, a total of 311,493 cases and 7,193 coronavirus-related deaths have been reported.  According to a New York Times database Wednesday, at least 764 new coronavirus deaths and 51,938 new cases were reported in the U.S. on Tuesday. Over the past week, there has been an average of 53,803 cases per day, a decrease of 24% from the average two weeks earlier. The health department on Wednesday reported 28 outbreaks at Mississippi nursing homes. There have been 10,442 cases of the coronavirus in long-term care facilities, and 1,974 deaths reported as of April 16, the latest figures available.
