COVID-19 in Mississippi: 70 new cases, no deaths reported April 12

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 70 new cases of COVID-19 and no coronavirus-related deaths Monday. Since the virus hit the state in March 2020, a total of 307,519 cases and 7,096 coronavirus-related deaths have been reported.  According to a New York Times database Monday, at least 296 new coronavirus deaths and 48,147 new cases were reported in the U.S. Over the past week, there has been an average of 69,632 cases per day, an increase of 11% from the average two weeks earlier. The department on Monday reported 15 outbreaks at Mississippi nursing homes. There have been 10,439 cases of the coronavirus in long-term care facilities and 1,973 deaths reported as of Friday, the latest figures available.

As of Monday, April 12, there have been 307,519 total cases of the virus since mid-March 2020, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 7,096 total deaths. The state health department estimates there have been 295,569 recoveries.
